Dyslexia Assessment


Overview

Our full diagnostic dyslexia assessment is carried out by a qualified specialist assessor and follows the current SASC and PATOSS guidelines. The process is designed to be supportive, clear, and thorough, providing you with an accurate understanding of your learning profile and tailored recommendations.

Before the Assessment

To ensure the assessment is accurate and personalised, we will ask you to complete the following before your appointment:

  • Background Questionnaire
    You’ll receive an online form covering educational history, learning experiences, developmental information, and any relevant medical background.
  • Gather Supporting Information
    You may be asked to share previous school reports, exam results, learning support plans, or past assessments (if applicable).
  • Pre-Assessment Screening (if required)
    Some clients may complete a short digital screening test to guide the focus of the full assessment.
  • Booking Confirmation & Deposit
    A
    £100 non-refundable deposit is required to secure your appointment. This is deducted from the full fee.

Once completed, you will receive confirmation, preparation instructions, and directions for your assessment session.

During the Assessment

A full diagnostic assessment typically lasts 2.5–3.5 hours. It includes:

1. Initial Discussion

  • Review of the background questionnaires
  • Brief conversation about strengths, difficulties, and goals
  • Clarification of how the assessment will run

2. Cognitive Assessment

Standardised psychological tests are used to understand:

  • Verbal reasoning
  • Visual reasoning
  • Working memory
  • Processing speed
  • Problem-solving approaches

These help identify the clients learning profile and whether there is a significant cognitive pattern linked to dyslexia.

3. Literacy Skills Assessment

A structured set of tasks assessing:

  • Reading accuracy
  • Reading speed and fluency
  • Spelling ability
  • Single-word reading
  • Non-word reading
  • Writing tasks (including spelling in context)

4. Phonological Processing Tests

These measure:

  • Phonological awareness
  • Rapid naming
  • Auditory discrimination
  • Blending and segmenting skills

These are core indicators used in diagnosing dyslexia.

5. Closing Discussion

At the end of the session, the assessor will:

  • Summarise initial observations
  • Explain next steps
  • Confirm when to expect your final report


After the Assessment: Report & Follow-Up

Comprehensive Diagnostic Report

You will receive your written report within 12–14 days.

Your report includes:

  • Diagnostic conclusion (in line with SASC guidelines)
  • Full breakdown of test results
  • Clear explanation of strengths and difficulties
  • Functional impact summary
  • Individualised recommendations for home/ education/workplace
  • Access arrangements guidance (if applicable)


Fees

  • Full Diagnostic Dyslexia Assessment: £590
  • Deposit Required at Booking: £100 (deducted from total fee)

Remaining balance is due 48 hours before the assessment date.

Terms & Refund Policy

  • The £100 booking deposit is non-refundable, as it covers administrative time and reserves your assessment slot.
  • If you need to reschedule, you must provide at least 72 hours' notice; otherwise the deposit may be forfeited.
  • If the assessment cannot proceed due to assessor unavailability, your deposit will be transferred to a new date or refunded in full.
  • Full payment must be received before assessment begins.
  • Reports are released only once full payment has been received.
